It’s the season of love once again. One of my favorite occasions, since the color Red is everywhere! It also means that the flowers, chocolates and other sweet confectioners are flooding the streets. And since my friend opened her new business recently, I thought, “why not reward myself for being such a good sport lately?” -actually, this is just an excuse to bite into her cupcakes again. I just love ’em, especially her Banoffee cupcakes… makes me all tingly inside.
Since it would seem like I’m one sided on this especially because a friend’s product is to be reviewed, I asked another friend to have a taste, savor their flavors and write something about them. Here’s what he wrote:
“Apples and Almonds cupcakes are an unusual-sounding business venture by Jacy’s friend named Faith. Seriously, Apples and Almonds? I cannot help but wonder if she is selling fruits and nuts and charges 360 Php for a bunch of six. Does she decorate these with trinkets and beads? Do they come with a fondue so we can lavish them in warm chocolate goodness? These are the thoughts swirling around my head as I awaited these much-heralded cupcakes whom Jacy swears are freakishly good.
Valentines Day arrived and so did the cupcakes. Faith handed us our orders which consisted of Apple Cinnamon and Banoffee–Jacy’s idea. My initial skepticism towards these babies were dissolved as soon as I sank my teeth into the moist soft bread of the Apple Cinnamon cupcake. It reminded me of velvet-flavored cupcakes because of the red sprinkles on top of the frosting which melts in your mouth. The robust texture of the cupcake and the sensation of the cupcake swirling inside my mouth harkened me back to my mother’s hot and fresh apple pie when I was a kid. Sensational! Although I have no idea where the cinnamon was, I detected it buried deep within the bread.
I tasted the Banoffee Cupcake and I never expected to be blown away by the consistency of the bread. What does Faith put in these? Cocaine? They’re absolutely delish! The cocoa powder was visibly sprinkled into the snow-white frosting of the cupcake. The moistness of the bread blends perfectly with the sweet staccato of the frosting. It hit the perfect notes, in my opinion.
I am literally and figuratively eating my words as I write this with cupcake stuffed in my mouth. This is one thing I was glad I was wrong about. I’ll try the other flavors. Kudos to Faith and her heavenly cupcakes!” -Armando Montecillo (Quezon City)
