The Chocolate Kiss Cafe

One weekday morning, my friend Mamands, Orange and I plotted a dine-out treat for ourselves. We were brainstorming where to eat, discussing for some time via text and then agreed to let Mando decide for us all. So I slept and drooled after…

Come 4pm the same day, Mando sent me a text message saying we’ll be heading to one of UP Ang Bahay ng Alumni’s most delish-serving restos – The Chocolate Kiss Cafe.  At first I thought we’ll be eating in a pastry shop or a sweets/confectioner cafe since the name itself is parallel to such cafes. Though I was quite wrong.

Mando brought Tita Marcy and Jojo went with Orange. We were supposed to bring Yeng and Ron along but unfortunately they can’t join us. So despite the awful weather, we went on with our plan and the result was…

Delightfully satisfying 🙂

When we got there, Tita Marcy was already starting off with a Caesar Salad.

Caesar Salad

Crisp lettuce greens topped with bacon bits, croutons, and Parmesan cheese. Served with our own Caesar salad dressing. Topped with grilled chicken fillet. P215

Got a taste of it and it was way better than the salads sold at fast food restos. The veggies are indeed crispy and the dressing is just right for my choosy taste (I’m not fond of salads that much.)

Since Mando was the master planner, he ordered for us all. Since I trust his taste on food, I never attempted to make any objections regarding his choices.

They first served us with their own blend of Iced tea. Mando even said that “Ever since they started in the late 90’s, it has been the all-time favorite of the customers.” I can agree to that. Aside from the fact that it’s a carefully home brewed tea, You can actually add Calamansi and Honey to suit your taste. From all the restaurant’s I’ve eaten, I can say that this is probably the best tasting Iced tea I’ve ever tasted.Bottomless Iced Tea P70

After praising and giggling over their Iced tea, the “Main battle” started. One by one, dishes of good smelling food appeared before my very eyes.

Below are the plates that landed on our table:

Eggplant Parmigiana
Slices of eggplant layered with home-made tomato sauce, fresh herbs, and cheese. P190

For starters, we had their 190-peso Eggplant Parmigniana. We were served with generous strips of eggplant drenched in sun-dried tomato sauce, some pesto and parmesan cheese thrown in. It whetted our appetites and prepared us for the heavier entrees.

Chix in a Basket
Sticks of chicken breast breaded and fried until golden and crispy. Served with French fries and barbecue or honey mustard sauce. P210

Hickory Smoked Spareribs
Grilled pork spareribs with Hickory sauce and buttered corn kernels. Served with rice. P210
Or served with garlic mashed potatoes. P235

The Spareribs was awesome! It has a tingling taste I can’t explain, plus the meat that surrounds the ribs are super tender, it can literally melt on your mouth.

Chicken Kiev
Roulade of tender chicken breast filled with cream cheese, butter, and herbs. Served with mixed vegetables and rice. P215

I also love this Chicken Kiev. It’s filling is memorable and the crispiness of it’s outside layer is just right. The sauce balances the taste and gives the whole dish a thumbs up.

Fish Kiev
The fish version of our Chicken Kiev, with the same load of creamy goodness. Served with white wine scallion sauce, steamed vegetables and rice. P250

Chocolate Kiss Suite
Sample our classic cakes. » One order (4 squares): P95

This sampler plate is like a piece of heaven…All four are totally delish!

I don’t love Carrot cakes but this one tastes as lovely as it looks. The Dayap cake is also surprisingly lovable. It’s different from all the other cakes I’ve tasted and it’s very soft.

We all ended up bloated.

But happy 🙂
